In compressed view mode, SonoBat attempts to discriminate calls from non-call segments of the sequence and "compress" the space between the calls. The time scale accurately reflects the timing of the calls, but not the intervals between the calls, however the call interval times are displayed following processing.

Real time view mode displays the entire content of the file (albeit at a lower resolution than compressed view mode). This mode is helpful when there is too much noise for effective call discrimination in compressed view mode, or when desiring a sonogram view displaying the "real time" relationship between calls and intercall intervals, as with a feeding buzz.
